TIS is pleased announce the vendors’ area will be open to the public from approximately 2p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, with all vendors present. There is a $5 fee to visit the vendors’ large display area, payable at our convention registration desk for those not attending the convention. Registered convention attendees will have other opportunities as well over the weekend for visiting the vendors’ room. An unprecedented number of the East Coast’s premiere nautical memorabilia dealers are present this year- an opportunity no collector should miss!
It is with great pleasure that TIS announces that Dan Mansolino and Al Wilhelmi will be joining us in the vendor room for the convention weekend. Both gentlemen go way back to TIS days in Philadelphia at some of our first conventions. Great to have you both back aboard!
Nautiques and Luxury Liner Row, two dealers in ocean liner collectibles, have confirmed to vend at the convention to date.
What promises to be one of the most intriguing and enjoyable TIS conventions ever needs just one thing to make it perfect — your convention registration!
Exciting new talk topics and speakers, new bus stop tours and a new convention venue will make this a most memorable weekend.
Three stellar speakers are in our lineup. Have you ever seen any Carpathia dinnerware? Cdr. Paul-Henri Nargeolet will present a fully-illustrated informal talk about the 2007 Carpathia expedition, showing us remarkable photos of her recovered artifacts.
Think you know all about Titanic’s final breakup? Think again! Engineer Roy Mengot will be presenting a radical new sinking scenario that will turn Titanic’s story literally upside down. You’ll be among the first in the world to hear of this major rewrite!
The identification of Titanic’s unknown child — the most poignant of stories — has taken dramatic new turns, and Canadian researcher Alan Ruffman’s update marks one of its first American presentations.
Our famous bus tour features plenty of new stops: Murals by Titanic artist Francis Davis Millet, perhaps his last commissions; A dramatic and beautiful plaque to Titanic’s Dr. Francis W. F. N. O’Loughlin — see it now before it goes into storage prior to St. Vincent Hospital’s demolition! A visit to Woodlawn Cemetery, where no fewer than six Titanic people are at rest.
Nautical memorabilia dealers will be on hand. And so much more!
Online booking of hotel and convention is now fully operational through our weblog. Go to our website, www.titanicinternationalsociety.org, and click on the “Convention 2008″ link.
The registration deadline is rapidly approaching and your convention committee needs an accurate headcount. Please take a moment now, and arrange your participation in a truly remarkable convention, filled with friendship, learning and fun, in one of the world’s most exciting cities! See you there!
Alan Ruffman, Research Associate, Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and President, Geomarine Associates Ltd. will speak on the investigation concerning Titanic’s “Unknown Child” on Saturday evening. Mr. Ruffman is a well-known Titanic historian and author of several books including: Titanic Remembered: The Unsinkable Ship and Halifax.
A poignant YouTube offering has just been posted on January 2nd with a contemporary interpretation and musical selection regarding the unknown child, and is well worth a look at the link below.

On Saturday, on the way into Manhattan, our tour bus will detour to view the spectacular series of murals by Frank Millet, celebrated Massachusetts muralist who lost his life aboard Titanic. These are located at at the Hudson County Courthouse. The panel pictured above is titled “Paying for the Land, January 30, 1658″, and is among those we will see on Saturday. (© 2007 Charles A. Haas.
